Coveting: this denim skirt. Also this one from Land's End, although it's pricey and I wish there were a more neutral color choice. There's navy, but that's a bit dark for me for summer. Maybe khaki? Maybe I could make one. I made a denim wrap-around skirt a few years ago that I love, although I think it's coming apart a bit. I do love the LL Bean denim skirt. I think I'd get a lot of mileage out of it. I'm not big on shorts; I'd rather wear a skirt. I think it's a thigh issue for me. I have big thighs (or as Gary once put it, "horse thighs"---you can bet I haven't forgotten that) that used to be really muscular, but now, not so much. [Sidebar: when I was a freshman in college, I was walking down the dorm hall one night wearing a pair of running tights and another girl stopped me to tell me she thought I had perfect legs. How far they've fallen since then . . .] So I'm not into shorts, but I do love skirts---I stay cool and I feel feminine (always in the back of my mind with this short short hair).

I think I need a new pair of shoes for winter. My Born clogs have just about had it, and regardless, as Ali once wisely pointed out to me, it's probably not a good idea to wear backless shoes while walking in several inches of snow. Ideally, I'd like a shoe that performs something like a boot but doesn't look boot-y. I don't want snowboots or even brown hiking boots or anything that rugged, but I do need something that I can throw on fairly quickly and wear in the snow without worrying about getting my socks wet. I never liked wearing 'real' boots because whenever I got to wear I was going (like the grocery or wherever), I wasn't comfortable wearing the boots as just walking-around shoes. I always felt like I needed to bring my regular casual shoes with me to change into once I was indoors. I have no idea what kind of shoe I'm looking for, only that I haven't seen it yet.
