I know, I know, I'm a horrible blogger. I do web design part-time from home, so whenever I get the chance to be on the computer for more than five minutes, I'm usually working. And lately I've been swamped with work, so I haven't had any 'fun' computer time. But now, now I can show the photos of my completed knitty Christmas gifts!
First up is the Clapotis made using alpaca from Mystical Creation Yarns in the Ginger colorway. I made it for my sister, who chose the color months ago but didn't know what I was making from it. I love the colors, too, so much so that I wish I could have kept the scarf for myself!
I used a half pound of the alpaca (about 675 yards) and had some left over. I probably could have done another couple repeats of the straight section, but since I didn't know how much yarn I was going to have left over (and because I couldn't get anymore dyed the exact same colors) I stuck with the pattern as written. It's not as long or as wide as the Clapotis I made for myself, I think because the yarn is a bit finer, but it is very, very soft.
Here's a photo of the completed feather and fan scarf I made for Mom using Lamb's Pride in Cream (I think). I used a bit more than two skeins; I have enough left of the third to make matching mittens (eventually). I wasn't sure about fringing it but after getting some opinions from other knitters, I went with it.
It's a nice long scarf, about six feet long, and the wool is perfect for our cold, cold winters. Mom has several winter coats, I figured the cream color would go with any of them.
At the last minute I made a couple of chenille face cloths for my sister using the pattern from Weekend Knits. The solid yellow was made using the called-for Crystal Palace chenille; the petals on the daisy version were made using a mystery chenille gifted to me by another knitter. I think the gauge must have been a bit different, as the shape of the petals on the second one was a little off and it affected the finished shape of the cloth.
I'm working on a pair of socks for Gary; they were meant to be a Christmas gift but were pushed to the back burner in order for me to get my family's gifts finished first. I'm making them using Regia Jubilee in a blue colorway, and I've finished one sock, so hopefully I'll have a photo of that up soon. I'm also working on a scarf for myself, and I've finished one sock of a pair for myself. Now that the holiday knitting is over, I can also finish Spencer's wizard sweater. I'm done with the front and back and both sleeves, I need to pin it together and try it on him to make sure the sleeves are long enough. I have yarn for three more sweaters for Spencer, and two or three for Ginger; I figure I'll be able to knit for myself anytime, but if I don't hurry up and get to work on their sweaters, they'll be too big for the sizes I bought the yarn for!
