Baby Ginger's first birthday is rapidly approaching, and while I've got the party plans underway, we've done nothing as far as her gifts. On one hand, we have a ton of age-appropriate toys for her handed down from Spencer; on the other hand, I'd like to give her something for her birthday. We're thinking we'll get her something small and use any other funds to (finally) fix up her bedroom. I have a wooden rocking chair that was mine when I was small; I want to paint it to match her room and give it to her for her birthday, too. She's too little to be "into" anything, but I'm totally out of the loop when it comes to toys for one year olds. Ideas?
Zachary just turned one and got so many toys...its kinda out of control! Do you have the Fisher Price Farm or Noah's Ark? Those two are really fun, with lots of animals and sounds Or maybe a little play kitchen? I love the idea of painting your chair for her. That's so sweet!!!

Last year (aack, my baby is 2!) Sydney got the Little Tykes Discover Sounds kitchen. It's really cute and small - she loved playing with it. Also, the Little People Dollhouse is really cute. :)

That Ball Popper machine is my 1 year old's fave toy. It rocks. I'm even a little too into it for my own good. PS Ball Popper sounds dirty but it's not. ;)

We had the same thing happen, Lisa---Spencer got a *ton* of stuff (it was embarrassing, really) for his first birthday and Christmas. We have the Little People farm and garage; Fisher Price Stand-Up Ball Blast; PS Airtivity Table; PS Buzz About Mailbox; Leapfrog Learning Table; a FP push-walker thingy, and bunch of other blocks (wooden and peek-a-boo), stackers, Legos w/a Lego table, Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles with knobs, a play kitchen . . . I think what we have pretty much covers the entire spectrum of toys. I guess I'm hoping to find something for her that's unlike anything we already have. The FP Peek a Block Incrediblock looks cool (and would work with the 2 dozen blocks we already have), but I'm not crazy about that $50 price tag.

You know what...Sydney got the Incrediblock for her 1st birthday, too, and she was never a huge fan of it. Maybe a different kid would like it, but for $50, my parents should have probably gotten something else. It's collecting dust in a corner as we speak...

How about the FP Laugh & Learn Home? I got it for Darci and she LOVES it...in fact, I haven't run into a kid yet that hasn't! But, it's $60 regularly...I got it on sale for $30...

We looked at the FP house thing, but besides not having room for it (well, only in the sunroom, which we can't really use in the winter), it seemed like we pretty much already have most of the individual activities featured on the house (clock, shape sorter, mailbox, the ball drop thing, etc.).
I was thinking about maybe getting her a doll, and this one's won several toy awards. She played with one today at a toy store and seemed to like touching its face . . .

How much do I love that dolly? I love this one (http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=CODH3679/205.0.5713.0.0.0.0) just a tiny bit more.
My daughter is not a doll girl, unfortunately. So her Granny and I buy them for our own amusement.

Very cool! I've never seen them!

Me, neither. I found out about them when I was checking out the Oppenheim Toy Awards (google it and you'll get their site w/lists of toys). They look cute; there's even one you can put in the bathtub!
