It is very strange reading about Hurricane Rita's path toward Texas; if we still lived where we did seven years ago, we'd be right in its (her?) path. Beaumont is, I think, closer to the gulf than Houston. We witnessed only one possible hurricane while we lived there; I don't remember much except that we didn't get a single drop of rain. I'm so glad we're not there now. I can't imagine trying to pack up and evacuate with four cats and two little kids, not knowing what state the house would be in when we returned. I hope everyone down that way is able to move to safety.
On a related note, it's 11:30 p.m. and Gary just headed out to fill up the cars with gas, anticipating another rise in gas prices. Will it go as high as $5 a gallon? I really hope not.
Beaumont is closer to the gulf. Houston is about 50 miles inland...butit's basically one big flood plane. It's going to be a mess up there. :(
