I'm all about hand-me-downs and consignment stores when it comes to baby/kids' clothes, but as my piano teacher said yesterday, "It's nice to get them a few things that are just theirs, that nobody else has worn before." The one thing Gary and I wanted to get for Ginger was a new coming-home outfit; this past weekend he helped me find something for her. I narrowed it down to half a dozen outfits before he picked his favorite---among the finalists were three pink sets, one white, one purple and one blue. I actually thought he'd go for the blue (because it's not what you'd expect for a newborn girl, and because blue is his favorite color), but to my surprise he picked one of the pink outfits. "I want her to come home in something girly," he explained. And so Ginger will be making her debut into the big world wearing this from Carter's Little Rose line (click to enlarge).
Gary wasn't sure about the sweater at first ("It's going to be August!" he protested) until I reminded him that the hospital, the car and the house were all likely to be air-conditioned. There's a little pair of socks to match, and a white bonnet with pink rosebuds I found on clearance at Kohl's.
Sometimes I still can't believe we're having a girl.
